That’s right there is a new King of the Ring and that is no other than the Porsche 919 hybrid
The record-breaking lap was done on the 29 June 2018 by Timo Bernhard, with an average top speed of 233.8km/h and an incredible top speed of 369.4km/h
This new lap record replaces the previous 1983 record set by Stefan Bellof in a Porsche 956 C by a whole 51.58 seconds.
The 919 Hybrid Evo is based on the successful Le Mans-winning 919 Hybrid race car. It’s been modified to develop 1160hp (865kW) from its hybrid powertrain and generates 50 per cent more downforce than the FIA-compliant model thanks to modified and active aerodynamics
So the question is What will be the next to break this record? how long will it take? and will it be beaten by a fraction or will it be destroyed like the 919 did to the 956?

Side note: To see so many Porsche models up in the records and not just around Nurburgring but in just about all forms of motorsport is a true testament to a company that has shaped motorsport into what it is today. Is there any doubt as to just how deep the motorsport roots of Porsche go and is there any other car that carries as much motorsport pedigree?
